Welcome to my latest Score Reduction! For this edition, we’re going to take a look at the Floating Mountains scene from Avatar (2009).

About the scene: Grace, feeling the threat of Parker and his team, decides they need to relocate to a facility high in the mountains of Pandora. Norm immediately understands what she means and springs into action, while Jake is still trying to catch up. They eventually set flight into the mist, the score builds suspense, and then releases into awe when the Floating Mountains finally appear. It’s the first time the mountains are revealed to Norm and Jake, and the music captures that wide-eyed wonder perfectly.
