Welcome to my latest Score Reduction! For this edition, we’re going behind the scene when T’Challa is challenged by M’Baku for the throne in the movie Black Panther (2018).

🎬 About the Scene 🎬 In Wakanda, it is tradition for the throne to be challenged by a warrior from any of Wakanda’s five tribes during a coronation. The challenge is a ritualistic combat, and the winner earns the right to become the Black Panther. The only tribe that chooses to challenge T’Challa is the Jabari Tribe, led by M’Baku. We start our musical analysis midway thru this cue, where T’Challa seems like he’s on the brink of defeat.
